[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]During this difficult year, due to the emergency measures taken to protect public health, our municipal libraries sent an optimistic message to young and old alike, so that they would not be deprived of reading and the joy of reading, offering new services and serving their public.<\/p>\n
The services offered by our municipal libraries under the new conditions of the pandemic are:

\n\u2013 Storytelling program \u2013 reading children’s books & activities for children.
\n\u2013 Remote reading programs \u2013 via Webex \u2013 with primary school students.<\/p>\n
Taking stock of the year, we present the following statistics, noting that in-person services at the libraries were available until March 12, 2020 \u2013 after which they closed \u2013 and from then until the end of the year, the public used the new services offered by our libraries.<\/p>\n
Specifically, in 2020, at the Libraries of the Municipality of Chania The members of the\u0384First Reading Club<\/strong> f the Municipal Library of Chania met with all precautions in place nine (9) times in 2020<\/strong> and read and discussed 9<\/strong> books, while the Second Reading Club <\/strong> met three 3<\/strong> times and read 3 books.<\/p>\n The Mobile Library<\/strong> Municipal of Chania did not operate in 2020<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”52px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Our municipal libraries in numbers:<\/p>\n Specifically, in 2019<\/strong>, 1.542<\/strong> new members registered with the Chania Municipal Libraries<\/strong>, while the total number of users\/readers <\/strong>who used them reached 45.352.<\/strong><\/p>\n A total of 54.778<\/strong> books and 413<\/strong> magazines and audiovisual material (CDs and DVDs) were borrowed.<\/p>\n A total of 3.431<\/strong> new<\/strong> volumes were acquired, bringing the total number of books in the collection to 166.284<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The number of events held last year is also impressive, with a total of 184<\/strong> seminars.<\/p>\n It should also be noted that 166 school classes<\/strong> visited the municipal libraries, with a total of 5.829 students<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Mobile Library<\/strong> made 37<\/strong> visits to schools and lent 1.141<\/strong> books to students.<\/p>\n The two (2) Adult Reading Club<\/strong> met 23<\/strong> times in 2019<\/strong> [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The libraries of the Municipality of Chania, with their library organization, renovation of premises, various cultural activities, events for children and adults, seminars, reading clubs, collaborations with cultural organizations, institutions, libraries, schools, and so much more, have achieved significant results.<\/p>\n They aimed to increase visibility, boost visitor numbers and borrowing, encourage voluntary participation and contributions, and at the same time upgrade and develop the libraries themselves.<\/p>\n Our municipality’s libraries in numbers:<\/p>\n Specifically, in 2018, 1,651<\/strong> new members registered at the libraries of the Municipality of Chania, while the total number of users\/readers who used them reached 46,454<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A total of 55.556<\/strong> books and 671<\/strong> magazines and audiovisual material (CDs and DVDs) were borrowed. The number of events held last year is also impressive, with a total of 182<\/strong> seminars.<\/p>\n It should also be noted that 238<\/strong> school classes visited the municipal libraries, with a total of 6.909<\/strong> students.<\/p>\n The Mobile Library, with 71<\/strong> visits to school units, lent 2328<\/strong> books to students.<\/p>\n The two (2) Adult Reading Clubs <\/strong> met 22<\/strong> times in 2018, during which a wide range of books were read and discussed.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”52px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The Libraries of the Municipality of Chania, through their professional library organization, the renovation of their spaces, a wide range of cultural activities, events for children and adults, seminars, reading clubs, and collaborations with cultural institutions, foundations, schools, and many more initiatives, achieved significant results.<\/p>\n Their efforts focused on promoting reading, increasing visitor numbers and loans, encouraging voluntary participation and contribution, while also enhancing and developing the Libraries themselves.<\/p>\n Specifically, in 2017<\/strong>, 1.542<\/strong> new members registered at the Municipal Libraries of Chania<\/strong>, while the total number of users and readers reached 36.563.<\/strong><\/p>\n A total of 47.852<\/strong> books and 775<\/strong> magazines and audiovisual materials (CDs and DVDs) were borrowed.<\/p>\n TThe total number of newly<\/strong> acquired monograph volumes amounted to 1.821<\/strong>, bringing the overall book collection to 110,354<\/strong> volumes<\/p>\n The number of events <\/strong>held last year is also impressive, reaching 150<\/strong>, including seminars<\/p>\n It is also worth noting that, 99 school classes<\/strong> visited the Municipal Libraries with a total of 6.158<\/strong> students <\/strong>participating.<\/p>\n The Mobile Library,<\/strong> with 70<\/strong> visits to school units, lent 2300<\/strong> books to students.<\/p>\n The two (2) Adult Reading Clubs<\/strong> met 20<\/strong> times in 2017, during which a wide range of books were read and discussed.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”52px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Specifically, in 2016<\/strong>, 1,222<\/strong> new members registered at the Municipal Libraries<\/strong>, while the total number of users and readers reached 32,255<\/strong>. The total number of newly<\/strong> acquired monograph volumes amounted to 2,600<\/strong>, bringing the overall book collection to 108,660<\/strong> volumes.<\/p>\n The number of events <\/strong>held during the previous year is also impressive, reaching 221<\/strong>, including seminars<\/p>\n It is also worth noting that 133 school classes<\/strong> visited the Municipal Libraries, with a total of 4,417 students <\/strong>participating.<\/p>\n The Mobile Library,<\/strong> with 74<\/strong> visits to school units, lent 3.344<\/strong> books to students.
