5th Panhellenic Conference of the Association of Greek Librarians & Information Scientists (AGLIS), November 22–24, 2023

The Chania Municipal Library actively participated in the 5th Panhellenic Conference of the Association of Greek Librarians & Information Scientists (AGLIS), held in Athens on November 22–24, 2023.

With the theme “Linked Libraries”, the conference was organized in collaboration with the Municipal Library of Elliniko–Argyroupoli and took place at the “Mikis Theodorakis” Conference Center.

As part of the Chania Municipal Library’s participation, the Head of the Library, Ms. Vivi Choudalaki, delivered a presentation entitled: “Chania Municipal Library: The Road to the Book Festival”, highlighting key milestones in the upgraded development and evolution of the Library, culminating in the 2023 Chania Book Festival.

Further insights on the Chania Book Festival were shared by the author, journalist, and Festival Director, Mr. Manolis Pimplis.

Also present was Mr. Alexandros Tzortzakakis, Project Manager of the Chania Municipal Library’s digitization initiative, who gave a presentation titled: “Municipal Libraries in the Digital Environment: The Cases of Chania and Syros–Hermoupolis Municipal Libraries.”

The librarians of the Municipality of Chania, Ms. Maria Maravelaki, Ms. Chrysoula Antonakaki and Ms. Archontoula Choudalaki, also attended the conference.

In her remarks, the Head of the Chania Municipal Libraries, Ms. Choudalaki, emphasized:
“For us, the librarians of the Municipal Libraries of Chania, our presence at the conference is a valuable opportunity for scientific exchange, professional networking, the pursuit of new collaborations, and the renewal of long-standing contacts. Warm congratulations to AGLIS – the Association of Greek Librarians & Information Scientists – for the excellent organization. We are grateful to the Municipal Authority for supporting the lifelong learning of our staff and for giving us the opportunity to participate in such an inspiring conference.”

During the three-day Conference, participants had the opportunity to be informed on key issues of librarianship, while also engaging in the exchange of good practices, discussions, and updates on the progress, development, and challenges facing libraries in Greece.
