Participation of Chania Municipal Library in the 4th Panhellenic Conference of Municipal Libraries
The Chania Municipal Library actively participated in the 4th Panhellenic Conference of Municipal Libraries, entitled “Municipal Libraries in Transformation: Prospects and Challenges”, organized by the Association of Greek Librarians & Information Scientists (AGLIS) in collaboration with the Vikelea Municipal Library of Heraklion. The conference took place in Heraklion from September 22 to 24, 2022.
The Deputy Mayor for Culture, Mr. Giannis Giannakakis, attended the conference and addressed the participants with a brief greeting. Also present were the librarians of the Municipality of Chania: Ms. Areti Karveli, Ms. Maria Maravelaki, Ms. Chrysoula Antonakaki, and Ms. Evangelia Mastorakaki.
As part of the Chania Municipal Library’s contribution to the conference, librarian Ms. Areti Karveli delivered a presentation entitled: “Chania Municipal Library: The Library of Eleftherios Venizelos.”
During the conference, participants engaged in fruitful discussions and exchanges of views regarding the development, progress, and challenges of libraries in Greece. The program also included a guided tour of the Vikelea Municipal Library, its rich collections, and its conservation laboratory.
